![]() Like enormous sentinels guarding Oregon's coast, these sea stacks have stood for eons. These isolated outcrops of rock are the remnants of rocky headlands that were eroded by wave action. Prior to the end of the last ice age, which occurred approximately 10,000 years ago, Oregon's coastline was hundreds of feet to a mile farther west. Left standing, these dark, brooding giants have become major attractions and sources of awe.
