![]() This 14,410-foot mountain is the centerpiece of Mt. Ranier National Park in Washington State and is sometimes visible from a distance of 200 miles. Each year some 8,000 climbers take on the challenge of the nearly three-mile-high peak. But the majesty of the mountain is not the only reason to visit the Park. Surrounded by some of the finest old-growth forests left on earth and supporting a rich array of plant and animal life, Ranier rewards day-trippers and experienced mountaineers alike.
