 Acres of lavender fields surround the small town of Sequim in Washington's Olympic Peninsula. The rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains creates an ideal microclimate for growing lavender. I came upon this sunflower surprise in a field of lavender while photographing in the area. I silently thanked the bird who had dropped the seed amongst the lavender; a chain of events which led to this beautiful image.
