![]() A carpet of pink covers the pine straw beneath this beautiful camellia bush. I photographed these lovely flowers at Massee Lane Gardens, near Ft. Valley, Georgia, on a cold, February day. But that's the time they're in their prime; they provide color and beauty on bleak, wintry days. Pine trees soar atop the garden, providing shade on hot, summer days. The fallen straw leaks acid back into the soil, which is beneficial to the acid-loving camellia plants. Brick-lined paths, some inlaid with old millstones, provide additional interest to this wonderful garden. Massee Lane Gardens is the headquarters for the American Camellia Society. ![]()
